Google Social Search Engine to Disrupt SEO Tactics E-mail

The brainiacs over at Google are experimenting with a new social search engine that will retrieve content from sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other social media and networking sites and include them in Google search results. Searching for the term "coca cola" might present a link to the official Coca Cola website, next to a rant about how Coca Cola's taste is better than Pepsi's.


Several companies are in the process of releasing social search engines and Google and Bing have recently shown their interest in incorporating social media results along with normal search results. As the giant search engines adopt this model traditional search engine optimization techniques may need to change to remain effective.

Today, search engine optimization focuses on things like site structure, content, keywords and backlinks to a customer's website. Supplementary to this are posts on social media sites like Facebook and its ilk. But with Google and others comingling traditional and social media content with search results the practice (and art) of search engine optimization will need to focus on the best way to target onsite, offsite and social media. For instance, companies will place much more importance on creating Facebook pages for their company profile versus simply tweaking content on their corporate website in order to improve search engine ranking.
